Parlour suggests obstacle to Arsenal signing Karim Benzema

Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour has suggested why the Gunners may not get their hands on Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour told talkSPORT that he feels Karim Benzema would be a top quality signing for the Gunners, but suggested why he feels a move may not happen.

The Daily Mail is among the man sources to recently report the news that the French forward is among the reported targets for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, as he looks to give himself extra options with the new season now under a fortnight away.

“He would be a top quality striker – If he’s available from Real Madrid I don’t know, I think the owner likes him at Real Madrid and it’s whether they can entice him away,” he told talkSPORT.

Perez is arguably the biggest obstacle

Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez is arguably the biggest obstacle to Arsenal getting their hands on the experienced forward.

He’s someone who represents his club in a way where he always tends to get his man in terms of buying players, while protecting his favourite players in terms of those individuals potentially leaving.

Arsenal are a club in an impressive financial position and if Perez has no intention of letting Benzema leave, the North Londoners have to try and create a situation where they alter his thinking to their own advantage.

Do Arsenal need a new striker?

Arsenal already have good attacking options in the form of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, with Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez also able to play through the middle.

However, that little bit of extra support and quality could make all the difference in the title race, considering the talent and creativity Arsenal have in terms of their impressive midfield.
