Aston Villa are looking to sign the striker, who has also been linked to Newcastle United.
Aston Villa are set to lose Christian Benteke to Liverpool in the coming days, and they have found the striker they want to replace him, according to CalcioMercato.
They are said to be preparing an offer for the striker, 22, who has also been linked with one of Villa’s Premier League rivals - Newcastle United.
The Chronicle claimed last month that the Magpies were set to be offered Rolan this summer transfer window, and although they have already signed Aleksandar Mitrovic to lead the attacking ranks for next season, another striker would not go amiss at St James’ Park.
However, Villa are more likely to be an attractive option for Rolan, as he would be guaranteed almost consistent first-team football due to the lack of top quality striker when Benteke leaves the club.
Who is Diego Rolan?
Rolan, 22, is a Uruguyan international striker, who currently plays in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux. Prior to his move to France in 2013, he had played for Defender in his homeland, having progressed through their youth academy.
He has netted 18 goals in 74 games for Bordeaux, and Rolan’s 2014/15 season was the one in which the young forward rose to international prominence. 15 goals in 36 league fixtures earned him his first caps for Uruguay, and he is now a consistent fixture in their senior squad - with five caps bringing a return of one goal.
A former youth prodigy, Rolan is finally starting to reach his potential with Bordeaux, although he was playing in a wide role last term, rather than as an out-and-out forward. His main role is still goalscoring, and he sits in the inside forward position, allowing the right full-back to provide the width ahead of him.
However, he has excelled in this role, and whilst not a direct a replacement for Benteke, Rolan looks to be a player well suited to adapting to the Premier League.
