Malaga announce Albentosa loan from Derby, with option to buy clause

The defender returns to Spain after Malaga and Derby County agreed an initial loan move, which could become a permanent deal.

Malaga have officially announced the signing of defender Raul Albentosa from Derby County, after the player arrived on the Costa del Sol over the weekend, passing a medical and penning his contract.

In a statement via their official website, Malaga declared: "Raul Albentosa joins for the duration of the 2015-16 season on loan, with an option for the club to purchase before the end of the campaign."

Clearly pleased to have helped secure the move for his client, agent Luis Alonso posted images of Albentosa penning his Malaga contract via Twitter, wishing the 26-year-old centre-back "much luck!"

Derby County snapped up Albentosa in the January 2015 transfer window, paying what looked a bargain €600,000 fee, activating his release clause at Basque side Eibar.

However, settling into the swing of things in England and the Championship, didn't get off to the best of starts. After making his debut in an FA Cup win against Chesterfield at home, an injury prevented Albentosa from appearing in the league until early March.

From then, Albentosa went on to make a total of eight appearances in the Championship, seven of which were in the starting eleven, and just the one victory achieved during those encounters.

With his return to La Liga and the option to buy clause secured by Malaga, it looks very much like Derby County have no further plans for Albentosa, whilst the player would seemingly prefer to remain in Spain, following his brief English adventure.
