Birmingham City reject fourth bid for Clayton Donaldson

HITC Sport understands Birmingham City have rejected a fourth bid from Reading for striker Clayton Donaldson as they battle to keep hold of the player.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the transfer battle that Reading have seen a fourth bid for Birmingham City striker Clayton Donaldson rejected, with Leeds United and Ipswich Town also in the race for the player's signature

As revealed by HITC Sport last month, Reading and Leeds have both seen bids rejected by Birmingham for Donaldson as the Blues try to keep hold of last season's top scorer.

Reading have now seen a fourth bid, which could rise to over £2million with add-ons, turned down by Birmingham, with the Midlands club reluctant to lose Donaldson.

Donaldson is entering the final year of his contract at Birmingham, but the club are surprisingly reluctant to give the player a new deal to try and fend off the interest in his services.

Donaldson enjoyed an outstanding debut season at St Andrew's last term, scoring 16 goals, including the winner against Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Royals boss Steve Clarke has made a new target man one of his main priorities this summer and he feels former Brentford star Donaldson fits the bill.
