Cresswell suggests bonding period at West Ham: What it means for all players

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell has suggested the squad is currently going through a bonding period with regards to manager Slaven Bilic.

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell suggested on the club’s official website, why it’s more important that the club’s players bond effectively with manager Slaven Bilic.

Most of the players who will form part of the first team in the Premier League under Bilic have now had a chance to work with Bilic, with Cresswell suggesting that the club is currently going through an important bonding stage with their new manager.

“Yes, definitely (a bonding period). None of us knew the Gaffer personally and it's good for us to get to know him. The main thing is to get fit and that's what we're doing,” the left-back told

An opportunity for all players

Cresswell’s suggestion that it’s a bonding period for the players in relation to the manager, means that there is a real opportunity facing all of the players in the West Ham squad.

The fact Bilic doesn’t extensively know every player in the squad and the small details of what each player offers, means there is a chance for players to make an impression who may not have featured prominently under Sam Allardyce last year.

The right application and attitude is going to be very important moving forward because Bilic is a smart and sensible manager who will be looking for a number of things.

What will Bilic be looking for?

All he’ll want to see is the right sort of effort on the training field and an intelligence to be able to adapt around the methods and what he’s looking to create at the football club.

It’s important for all players to try and fit into his philosophy and if they do that, the chances should start to come.
