HITC Sport understands former Manchester City youngster Kieran Kennedy is poised to join Motherwell.

HITC Sport understands Motherwell have agreed a deal to sign former Manchester City youngster Kieran Kennedy from Leicester City.

Kennedy came through the ranks at Manchester City after joining the club at the age of eight and was a regular in the club’s youth sides and Elite Development squad.

The accomplished centre-back was highly-regarded at City, but never made the breakthrough into City’s star-studded first-team.

Eddie Howe's Celtic due diligence: A major breakthrough?

Kennedy joined Leicester City on loan in the 2013/14 season before making the move permanent at the end of his loan.

The England Under-19 international is available on a free transfer after leaving Leicester earlier this summer.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the deal that a number of clubs are thought to have shown an interest in Kennedy, but Motherwell have moved quickest to lure the versatile defender to Fir Park.

Motherwell boss Ian Barraclough is keen to bolster his defensive ranks and is set to sign Kennedy on a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months

Barraclough saw 16 players leave Motherwell over the summer and he is working hard to reshape his squad as he looks to avoid another battle for survival next season.
