Steve McClaren takes charge of his first match as Newcastle United manager tonight when he brings his squad to Gateshead FC.
Scheduled for a 8:00 BST kick off, the former England manager doesn't have any new signings yet this summer to try and incorporate into his squad, but he may well unveil a different strategy and formation to what interim manager John Carver was utilising in the second half of last season.
Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles make their first appearances for the club after finishing their loan spells at former club Nottingham Forest.
There are reports that the Magpies are close to signing both Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic according to Sky Sports, but with no official announcement, it will be the players that finished last season that McClaren will pick from.
Newcastle and Gateshead have a close relationship, with the town just the other side of the River Tyne, and plenty of young players head out on loan from St James's Park to sample first-team football there.
McClaren will be hoping that at least a few of the club's young players will impress in what is set to be the start of a rebuilding process under his stewardship.
