Bosnich explains why Sherwood needs a replacement before selling Benteke

Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has urged the club's manager Tim Sherwood to make a hasty decision over Christian Benteke's possible replacement.

Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT that he feels Tim Sherwood needs to prepare for Christian Benteke’s exit from the club before it’s even happened.

The Australian can’t see the Belgian attacker staying at Villa Park and has suggested that Sherwood needs to get himself into a position where he holds all of the power in terms of price and selling him.

“I think Tim Sherwood now needs to start looking for replacements for him so that’s all signed, sealed and delivered so they can wait round and make sure they get the price they think is right for him,” the Australian told talkSPORT.

“I think a player of his talent deserves to go to a better club and one that perhaps hasn’t been struggling for relegation.”

Is the writing on the wall?

Tim Sherwood is a very positive manager with a very persuasive character in terms of convincing players that he’s the right manager for them to be playing for.

However, what he can’t do anything about is some of the advantages that other clubs can offer someone like Benteke, which can turn his head and grab his attention.

Other clubs could pay him more and potentially offer him Champions League football, which makes the situation difficult for Sherwood in terms of being stubborn over keeping him.

Get ahead of the game

If Benteke has already indicated behind the scenes that he wants to leave in direct communication to the manager and the club, Sherwood can’t be blamed if he signs a replacement and gets ahead of the game.

The risk for any manager and club in need of a player is that the closer the start of the season and then the end of the transfer window becomes, the more selling clubs can hold buying sides to ransom generating unfair deals.
