Aston Villa transfer round-up: Sherwood bets on Benteke stay, Chery wants Premier League move

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Aston Villa from the past 24 hours…

The Christian Benteke saga continues to rumble on and yesterday was Tim Sherwood's turn to give his take on the matter.

The Villa boss was in confident mood and speaking to Sky Sports News, offered a reporter a £100 bet that Benteke would stay at Villa this summer.

““Yeah, another £100 that he will,” Sherwood said. “Listen we want Christian here, we want to keep our best players and Christian is certainly one of those.”

But the Telegraph report that despite Sherwood's confidence, the Belgian striker is determined to leave and will inform the club of his wish on Wednesday.

Benteke will reportedly reiterate his determination to leave but is unwilling to submit a transfer request as he did two years ago.

Villa target Tjaronn Chery has moved closer to a move to the Midlands after informing FC Groningen of his desire to play in the Premier League, as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

The Dutch winger is believed to close to a switch after reports emerged last week of the clubs being close to agreeing a fee, and the move now seems imminent.

Finally, Villa and Liverpool target Ludwig Augustinsson will cost £3 million according to Swedish TV Channel Fotbollskanalen.

The 21-year old left-back impressed in Sweden’s recent Under-21 European Championship triumph and Copanhagen have now reportedly made public the fee any prospective suitors will need to cough up.
