Liverpool media round-up: Coates set to leave, Clyne to be announced, Lambert attracts interest

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool are likely to sell Sebastian Coates to Sunderland this summer, according to the Guardian, after spending a season on loan at the Stadium of Light.

Coates is one of several players who has become surplus to requirements at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers begins a clearout after making a few early signings - including young central defender Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic.

The Guardian's report also suggests that Nathaniel Clyne could be confirmed as the sixth signing of the summer today in a deal thought to be worth around £12.5 million.

Clyne was photographed by reporters having his medical done on Merseyside earlier this week, indicating that the deal is very close to completion.

Signing the full-back from Southampton could lead to solving what looks like a problematic position for Liverpool with Glen Johnson's departure leaving a huge void in the side, while central midfielder Emre Can was played out of position there towards the end of last season.

Another player set to be part of a clear-out at Anfield this summer is striker Rickie Lambert, with the Daily Telegraph among those reporting West Bromwich Albion are interested in the forward.

Lambert signed for around £4.5 million from Southampton last summer but has failed to make any real impact at Anfield, having found the net on only three occasions.

The Telegraph's report suggests Liverpool could recoup much of the money they paid for him.
