West Ham signing Dimitri Payet speaks about the Olympic Stadium

The latest addition to West Ham United's squad is excited about the changes afoot for the Hammers.

New West Ham United signing Dimitri Payet has been speaking to the club’s official website about the prospect of playing in the Hammers’ new stadium in just over a year.

The 28-year-old signed for a fee in the region of £10million from French club Marseille last week and he was quick to explain that a move to the Olympic Park for the 2016/2017 campaign played a role in his decision.

Payet is an attacking midfielder who can also feature on either wing if required, and his assist record of 21 in 38 matches last season goes a long way to explaining why West Ham spent so much on him.

Payet is also goal-scorer, with seven last season and 64 in his club career – along with 95 assists in that time – and if he brings that form to the Hammers, manager Slaven Bilic could have a new fan favourite on his hands.

Speaking about his move, Payet told Whufc.com, “In coming here I’ve taken into account the new stadium and that’s obviously part of the project.

“A new stadium always leads to progression and of course I think that this new stadium can advance the team and the club.”

West Ham have one last season at Upton Park before moving on to their exciting new era and Payet will be integral in whatever success they enjoy in Bilic’s first campaign in charge.
