Ex-Newcastle and Rangers defender Remi Streete reacts on Twitter to next career move

The released Newcastle United defender, who spent last season on loan at Rangers, has joined Port Vale on a free transfer.

Remi Streete was unveiled as a Port Vale player on Monday afternoon, having been released by Newcastle this summer.

The 20-year-old defender joins the League One side on a free transfer, having spent last season on loan with Scottish Championship side Rangers.

Streete never quite made the impact he would have wanted at Newcastle and also spent much of his time with Rangers injured.

The youngster will hope his next career move brings him more luck, though, and Streete took to Twitter to express his delight at signing for Port Vale.

Both Newcastle and Rangers have hired new managers this summer, with Steve McClaren taking over at St James' Park and Mark Warburton being named at Ibrox - also on Monday afternoon.

Some supporters comments on social media have suggested Rangers might have moved for Streete on a permanent deal had Warburton been appointed by the Gers earlier.

Others, however, have pointed to Streete's injury record as a sign he wouldn't have been a good enough signing for Rangers, anyway.

Perhaps the 20-year-old can rebuild his reputation at Port Vale - and he may end up back at Newcastle or Rangers as a new player later in his career.
