Report: Newcastle want to sign Charlie Austin within next seven days

Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin is reportedly being targeted by Newcastle United, Southampton, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Newcastle United are determined to sign Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers in the next seven days, according to The Northern Echo.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that Premier League outfit Newcastle will attempt to secure the services of the forward once he returns from international duty with England.

“Austin is currently part of the England squad that is preparing for Sunday’s European Championships qualifier in Slovenia, but Newcastle’s recruitment team, which is comprised of managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr as well as McClaren, are set to speak to the striker and his representatives when he returns to his London base,” states the report.

However, Newcastle could face a battle to sign the 25-year-old former Burnley star, who was arguably the best player for Rangers in the recently concluded 2014-15 season.

Southampton, West Ham United and Aston Villa all want Austin, according to The Mirror, while The Telegraph report of Premier League champions Chelsea’s interest in the Englishman.

Austin scored 18 goals and created 23 chances in 35 Premier League appearances in 2014-15, had a pass accuracy of 66% and a shot accuracy of 67%, and won 86 headers, 15 dribbles and 16 tackles.

The fact that QPR got relegated to the Championship means that the London outfit are set to lose the former Swindon Town star this summer.
