Why Celtic should make it a family affair and sign the Berisha brothers

Celtic have been linked with one exciting young Norwegian talent but another would be a wonderful addition to the side.

According to a recent report from the Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in signing Norwegian striker Veton Berisha from Viking Stavanger this summer.

But while the 21-year-old could offer something extra to Ronny Deila’s side, it is his brother Valon Berisha the Bhoys should really be looking at.

The older sibling is 22 and currently plays for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria having previously spent two years at Viking, and both his talent and his history suggest Celtic would be wise to make a move.

The older Berisha brother has previously had trials with Premier League sides Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa, and while the latter two clubs both offered him a contract he instead opted to continue his development in his homeland.

Such a decision shows he knows his own mind and when he did ultimately leave Norway it was for a spell in Austria, where he has so far featured 99 times for Salzburg, scoring 18 goals and providing 29 assists to date.

Averaging an assist once every 3.4 games, the 22-year-old is clearly a creative talent whose versatility suggests he would be an effective addition to Celtic’s squad were they to make a move. He is also young enough to develop considerably in the years ahead.

Predominantly a left winger, Berisha senior can also play on the opposite flank, as an attacking midfielder or as a secondary striker if required.

In short he is a great option to have in the side and as one of the most highly-rated young talents in Norway, Deila is sure to know him well.

Celtic’s alleged interest in Veton Berisha is no surprise given their need for more fire-power and the fact the younger player’s current contract expires this summer. But they may be wise to make it a family affair and sign his brother, too.
