The Frenchman is looking likely to stay at Athletic Club this summer.
Manchester United have recently been linked with a move for highly-rated French defender Aymeric Laporte. The Athletic Bilbao man is one of the more promising young centre-backs in world football and has proved that on numerous occasions throughout an impressive campaign in La Liga.
It was reported by The Guardian that Manchester United were keen on the player earlier in the summer, and were willing to meet his £30 million buyout clause in order to lure him from his beloved Athletic.
However today has seen a hammer blow to those chances, as Laporte has signed a new deal with the club.
It was confirmed by the club's official website earlier today that Laporte had signed a contract extension which would keep him at the club until 2019.
He does still have a termination clause in his deal, but it has risen. For Manchester United to get him now they will need to pay Athletic a fee in the region of €50 million, or £36.5 million.
The French under-21 international has played over 40 games for the Basque club this season and has previously been linked with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Arsenal
