Top Five: Worst ever dives - featuring Tottenham, Leeds players

Tottenham, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Rangers have all had their fair share of divers.

On this day in 2002, Brazilian legend Rivaldo took a tumble when hit by a football.

For all his brilliance on the field of play, it was clear that he went down all too easily when struck by the ball, which was ‘passed’ to him by Turkey’s Hakan Unsal.

He went down clutching his face, and the linesman, who was standing next to him, inexplicably failed to see the theatrical fall.

Unsal was sent off, Brazil won 2-1 in a tough World Cup fixture, and Rivaldo was fined a measly £5,180.

It is one of the enduring memories of an incredibly talented player, and the one thing that taints his historical reputation, but it certainly was a hilarious situation.

Diving has become such a large part of the game now that it was hardly a surprise to see Rivaldo fall down - at least he was actually hit by a ball.

Often players go down with he slightest of touches, or even no contact at all, and to celebrate Rivaldo’s historic collapse we take a look at five more famous dives - including a rather famous celebration dive.

Jurgen Klinsmann - Tottenham Hotspur

Adryan - Leeds United

Steven Taylor - Newcastle United

Kris Boyd - Rangers

Gareth Bale - Tottenham Hotspur
