Why Celtic should make a loan move for Manchester United's Angelo Henriquez

A loan move for this Manchester United player would be perfect for Celtic.

In a recent column for the Daily Record, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton suggested that the Bhoys needed to sign a new forward this summer, with a loan move potentially the best option.

With John Guidetti’s temporary spell at an end, Celtic have only Stefan Scepovic to act as realistic back-up to first-choice front-man Leigh Griffiths, and Sutton has suggested another dip into the loan market could prove effective.

“If you can find a young up-and-coming with the same potential as (Jason) Denayer had as a defender it’s a smart way to go,” Sutton wrote; and there just happens to be a perfect option on the books at Manchester United.

Angelo Henriquez is currently on loan at Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, where he has proved emphatically just how good he is in front of goal.

The Chilean arrived at United with a huge reputation as a prodigious young talent well worth watching, and this season the 21-year-old has scored 29 times in 37 matches for Dinamo.

That includes 20 goals in 25 league matches, three goals in six Europa League games and six goals in six Croatian Cup matches.

Not bad for a player yet to make his competitive debut for United despite signing for the club back in 2012 when he was just 18.

Even then Henriquez had a reputation as a goal-scorer, and that has only increased since he headed out on loan.

It remains unclear what this summer will bring for Henriquez, despite contrasting reports that he could sign for Zagreb in a permanent deal or potentially stay at Old Trafford and fight for a starting spot.

But a loan move to Celtic would suit all parties, with the player still young enough to make it at United but potentially given the chance to show what he can do week in, week out in Scotland and in the Champions League.

It will also give Celtic a bona fide finisher who they could realistically sign on loan from United if they move quickly enough.
