Parlour: Schneiderlin is a better fit for Arsenal's midfield than Vidal

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has suggested there is a player his old club should be focused on signing this summer.

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour urged his old club to move for a different player to reported target Arturo Vidal, as he appeared as a guest on talkSPORT.

Parlour suggested that the Gunners would be better off making a consolidated effort to sign Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, rather than attempting to sign the Chilean from Juventus.

“He looks like a really energetic player in that midfield, he can get his foot in, maybe he could be that holding midfielder they’re looking for – I think they will be going for Schneiderlin and I think he would be the better fit because of his Premier League experience,” he said.

The Daily Star has reported that both midfielders are currently targets for the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger facing a dilemma over where to direct his efforts.

Vidal is a superb player in terms of the box-to-box option that he would offer the Gunners, but he would arguably be more difficult for the club to sign and more expensive.

Schneiderlin has, as Parlour points out, vital Premier League experience which suggests that he would have a better chance of fitting into the pace and style of Arsenal’s play more comfortably.

It’s going to be difficult for Arsenal to get their hands on either or both players, but Wenger won’t make a signing unless he feels the man coming in can offer something different to the options he already has.

In terms of creativity and attacking potential, that box is ticked and that would suggest that a holding player like Schneiderlin would be the better option and someone who could well get more out of the talented Francis Coquelin.
