Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar responds to Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United claim

Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar does not think that Newcastle United will win anything major any time soon.

Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar has taken to social networking site Twitter to mock Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

Prior to the MagpiesPremier League game against West Ham United at St. James’ Park on Sunday, Ashley gave an interview to Sky Sports in which he made it clear that he is not planning to sell the club.

“Now it’s to win something – and by the way, I won't be selling it until I do,” said the English businessman. “Not at any price.

“And when I say win something, if we ever get in a position where we get a Champions League place, that also qualifies as winning something… To be categorically clear, I'm not going anywhere until we win something.”

Lord Sugar seems to believe that Ashley will remain at Newcastle for the foreseeable future, as he does not see the Magpies winning anything major any time soon.

Ashley seems to be quite ambitious at the moment, and it appears that he would invest in the club in the summer transfer window.

The problem is that breaking into the top four of the Premier League in the coming years will not be easy.

It is hard to see Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United slipping out of the top four, which means that like Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, Newcastle may have to settle for a Europa League spot.

However, it should be encouraging for the Newcastle fans that Ashley is showing some ambition.
