After Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson, another Liverpool player will definitely be leaving Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo earlier in the season, the 33-year-old had held discussions with the club over a possible contract extension, while suggesting he could still move.
And that has now been confirmed, with the Australian sending a message following what proved to be his last appearance on the Anfield pitch...at least when it came to the end-of-season lap of honour.
While Steven Gerrard’s departure understandably stole the headlines, it was also the final home appearance for both Glen Johnson and – as it turns out – Jones.
Writing on the social media site after the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, Jones said, “I would have loved to have stayed at the club I have supported since I was five but sometimes the dream ends.
“From myself and my family, thank you.”
Jones only ever played 27 senior matches for Liverpool but he may yet turn out in the final game of the campaign in place of Simon Mignolet, with Brendan Rodgers’ side facing Stoke City next Sunday.
