Manchester United's former club-record signing has been speaking about the latest player to agree a move to Old Trafford.
The Spanish international helped United get back to winning ways this weekend, their victory against Crystal Palace putting an end to three straight defeats for Louis van Gaal’s side and all but securing Champions League qualification.
Mata scored the opening goal of the game from the penalty spot and while Jason Puncheon equalised for Palace, Marouane Fellaini ensured the final score was 2-1 to the visitors.
That result – coupled with Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea 24 hours later – means United are all but certain of a Champions League place next season. But while fans are already looking ahead to the prospect of Memphis Depay stepping out at Old Trafford, Mata is not getting ahead of himself.
“This week we have known the signing of Memphis Depay for the next season,” Mata wrote. “He’s a young footballer who has shown his quality in the Dutch league.
“Like any new teammate arriving here he will be welcomed and we will help him to settle in quickly. But right now we must focus on the last two games.”
Those matches are at home to Arsenal and away to Hull City, and having put their poor recent form behind them it is up to United’s stars to end the season on a high.
