Dietmar Hamann: Liverpool do not need Manchester United-linked Memphis Depay

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing PSV winger Memphis Depay in the summer transfer window.

Dietmar Hamann has stated on social networking site Twitter that Liverpool do not need PSV winger Memphis Depay.

The former Newcastle United and Liverpool midfielder was responded to a question from one of his followers.

While Hamann makes a good point, if Liverpool do get the chance to sign Depay in the summer transfer window, then they should take it.

After all, the 21-year-old is one of the best young players in Europe and has been truly sensational this season.

The Netherlands international has scored 21 goals and created 56 chances in 28 Eredivisie games so far this campaign.

Depay has a pass accuracy of 74% and a shot accuracy of 46%, and he has won eight headers, 77 dribbles and 20 tackles.

The youngster has been a key figure in PSV’s Eredivisie title triumph, while in the Europa League he scored three goals and created five chances in six matches.

According to The Sun, Liverpool are interested in signing Depay and are in pole position to land him in the summer.

The British tabloid claims that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also eyeing the youngster, although the former are considering alternatives and the latter “are so unhappy at their interest being leaked they are on the brink of pulling out of the chase”.

Former Netherlands international Ronald de Boer was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail last month that Depay has “skill compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo”.
