Newcastle United legend Bob Moncur has revealed that he's been given assurances the club will spend money.
Newcastle United legend Bob Moncur explained in the Chronicle what the club’s managing director told him during a meeting.
Moncur confirms in his column for the paper that he’s met with Lee Charnley and was given assurances that the club was ready to splash the cash when the transfer window opens in the summer.
“The wider issue of investment in the summer is, as I say, set to be addressed and after meeting Lee Charnley only the other week in my role as club ambassador, I was told money would be spent when the transfer window opens,” wrote Moncur.
It’s difficult to judge the sort of targets and calibre of players that Newcastle are going to go after in the summer because it’s unclear who will be the manager looking ahead to next season.
It could be John Carver or someone could come in and replace him to offer a fresh view on the squad at the club.
Either way, improvements need to be made to enhance the size and quality of the squad, because the team has struggled in recent weeks and has been sucked down into the scrap near the bottom of the table.
The accumulation of injuries has forced Carver to use players out of position and that needs to stop if the club is to consolidate after this campaign as they look to push for a position in the top eight, which is where the club should be aiming.
