Marseille in gentleman's agreement for Southampton linked midfielder

Reports in France suggest that Marseille have already agreed to sign N'Golo Kante from Caen

There have been many clubs linked with a move for SM Caen’s N’Golo Kante this season, including Arsenal and Southampton say the Daily Mail.

However, today Le10sport are reporting that Olympique de Marseille have a “gentleman’s agreement” to sign the 24-year-old at the end of the season for €5 million.

Rumours are also linking Morgan Schneiderlin away from St Mary’s and Kante would be the perfect replacement for the Frenchman. No one in the current SM Caen side has adapted better to life in Ligue 1 than the powerhouse midfielder.

This season, Kante has shown superb qualities as Caen’s all-action box-to-box dynamo. He has been charging forward, scoring twice early in the season, but overall it has been his strong physical play that has impressed on-looking admirers.

Kante’s defensive work has been outstanding this season. Statistics show that no one in Ligue 1 has made more successful tackles, which includes Maxim Gonalons at high-flying Lyon and Monaco veteran Jeremy Toulalan.

Caen’s president Xavier Gravelaine has already suggested that the club will struggle to keep a hold of their talented young star this summer. With the Normandy side struggling to fight off a return to Ligue 2, Kante is all set to join a new club this summer.

Marseille may think they have first-option on the midfielder, but until a deal is signed there is still an opportunity for an English club like Southampton to steal in and win his signature.
