The Toon Army are not happy with their club’s decision to ostracise the left-back, who could feature for the Azzurri tomorrow night.
Newcastle’s decision to send left-back Davide Santon on loan to Inter Milan in January had the St James’ Park fans raising a few eyebrows, especially given that John Carver is lacking options in defence.
With the 24-year-old full-back seemingly set to rejoin his former club on a permanent deal in the summer, fans of the Tyneside club may well have seen the last of the defender in their black and white.
Santon has put in a number of impressive performances for an under-performing Nerazzurri since his return at the turn of the year and as such has been rewarded with a call-up to the Italy squad to face England in an international friendly tomorrow night.
Newcastle fans have reacted to the news with bemusement, with the majority lamenting the decision making of the powers that be at their club and in particular owner Mike Ashley.
Santon impressed for the Toon for a number of years but did not make a single Premier League appearance in the first half of this season.
With Santon seemingly thriving since leaving the North East, here are the Newcastle fans’ best tweets.

Davide Santon being called up by Italy whilst we're scrabbling around playing a CM at LB sums up the farcical ineptitude of our club. #NUFC

Good to see davide santon get a call up to the italian national side as nufc limp through to the end of the season without defenders.

Davide Santon called up to the Italy senior squad I see – the same fella that #NUFC did everything they could to get rid of in January…

Hope Santon scores against England tbh. We waste so much talent it's unreal. #nufc

Selling Santon sums up #NUFC under ASHLEY. It makes no sense at all. Now we have 2 midfielders at LB and RB and a RB at CB. Disgraceful

There won't be regrets at letting Santon leave as player off wage bill and money back that isn't being spent, all that matters tothem #nufc
