Long-term Tottenham Hotspur target Leandro Damiao is back in form after two year rut

The Brazilian striker has scored five goals in seven games for loan side Cruzeiro.

It is fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur fans got to know the name Leandro Damiao fairly well in the past couple of years.

The Brazilian striker was constantly linked with a move to North London from Internacional, especially while Andre Villas-Boas was boss.

In July 2013 The Independent reported that Spurs had given up on Damiao, as they were unwilling to spend £21 million on the player, who was also linked with Marseille and Southampton.

It looked like a wise decision.

After bursting onto the scene and scoring goals galore for Internacional leading up to the Tottenham interest, things dried up in 2013. He scored just 13 goals that year, compared to the 31 he managed in 2012 and the whopping 40 he scored in 2011.

In the end he joined Brazilian rivals Santos in 2014 bur has been a flop at the club and was loaned out to Cruzeiro after a disappointing year at Santos.

Now however, teams might want to take notice again - because he is back in goalscoring form.

After scoring just 11 times in 2014 he is already on five goals for Cruzeiro from just seven games. He appears to be refinding his best form at his new club and at this rate, should be scoring the amount of goals necessary to alert the likes of Tottenham again.

With Roberto Soldado misfiring and Emmanuel Adebayor sulking, perhaps Tottenham should consider revitalising their old flame for this Brazilian finisher.
