Real Madrid supporter poll could spell bad news for Bale

Gareth Bale is in danger of being dropped by Real Madrid, with a poll in AS revealing fans want the former Tottenham star to be benched.

Gareth Bale could be in line for a spell out of the Real Madrid first-team, if the results of a new fan poll are to be believed.

Readers of Spanish daily AS were quizzed on whom out of the attacking trident nicknamed BBC - for Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo - they would like to see dropped.

The survey revealed that 46.1 per cent of respondents wanted to see the Welshman benched, while in a somewhat surprising move Cristiano Ronaldo was second in the voting with 32.2 per cent.

Benzema, meanwhile accrued 21.7 per cent of the vote in a poll that saw also quizzed readers on their preferred formation.

Asked "Should Carlo Ancelotti return to a 4-4-2," a whopping 92.1 per cent of those involved in the vote responded with "yes" in a result that could spell bad news for Bale.

A total of 2,452 people took part in the vote, which was staged just days after Real Madrid sank to a 1-0 defeat away to Athletic Bilbao.

It was the second consecutive weekend in which Real dropped points in La Liga, having been held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal in their previous league fixture.

Next in action against Schalke in the Champions League, the game could see Bale start on the bench with Los Blancos hosting the Bundesliga outfit at the Bernabeu with a 2-1 first-leg advantage.
