Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Francis Coquelin's performance against QPR

How Arsenal's Twitter-based supporters reacted to the French midfielder's showing in their 2-1 win at Loftus Road.

Arsenal produced an impressive second-half display to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash, with a dominant midfield performance from Francis Coquelin helping them to three points.

After an even first-half, Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the 64th-minute, poking in Kieran Gibbs’ blocked shot, before Alexis Sanchez beat Roberto Green at the near post to double the Gunners’ lead five minutes later.

While goalkeeper David Ospina was a virtual spectator after the break, an 82nd-minute strike from Charlie Austin set up a tense finish at Loftus Road, but the visitors held on to consolidate their place in the top-four.

There were several standout attacking performers among Arsene Wenger’s men, with Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla all impressing, but Coquelin’s uncompromising shift in the centre of the park didn’t go unnoticed either.

Wearing a face mask after breaking his nose in the weekend’s 2-0 win over Everton, the Frenchman snuffed out several QPR attacks and kept the tempo ticking over with his straightforward but smooth passing.

Recording an 89 per cent pass success rate, six tackles, three interceptions and eight clearances, it was a showing which earned him special praise from manager Arsene Wenger, who told the club’s official website: “He had an excellent game tonight and overall in midfield we had a very good game.”

Arsenal have now won 10 of the 12 games since Coquelin came into the line-up and, judging from the reaction on Twitter, fans are growing more and more appreciative of his contributions to their recent upturn in form.
