Report: Manchester United miss out on Dayot Upamecano, summer signing still expected

Manchester United 3

Manchester United were linked with the signing of French defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 16-year-old central defender was reportedly set for a move to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day, with VAFC Power claiming that the youngster had agreed a deal with the Red Devils.

The report indicated that a €450,000 fee had been agreed for the Valenciennes defender, with the potential for the deal to rise to €900,000 dependant on performances. Having never made an appearance at club level, the fee seems astronomical, but clearly United scouts have seen enough in Upamecano to believe that he has the potential to be a star in he future. A French youth international - with caps at Under-16 and 17 level - big things are expected of him.

However, it now appears as if United missed out on their January target, with La Voix Du Nord reporting that Upamecano is still registered with Valenciennes.

The report suggests that, although the fee was agreed between the two clubs concerning the transfer, Upamecano’s agent could not agree personal terms with United and he remained in France past the close of the transfer window.

A move away from France is still expected in the future, and it is claimed that the youngster is still set to move to United in the summer transfer window, with no other clubs interested in him as of yet.
