Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 are being left behind for the next Borderlands outing.

Borderlands 3, the yet unnamed sequel in the Borderlands series, will be built “specifically for next-gen consoles”, according to Take-Two president Karl Slatoff during a company earnings call on Tuesday.

So, it sounds like the next Borderlands game will be leaving the last gen PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles behind, in favour of the PS4 and Xbox One. It’s a natural move to head towards making games solely for the current-gen consoles, due to their greater power,  and scope for more content and better graphics.

There is no word on details for the next Borderlands, such as the name, plot, or even a broad window for release. However, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has called it “the big one”, so we should likely expect a lot of content.

Elsewhere in Borderlands… land – Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is due for release on PS4 and Xbox One next month, on 24th March in the US and 27th March worldwide. The collection combines Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, along with all their DLC, remastered for the current-gen consoles.
