Report: Manchester United agree deal for Dayot Upamecano

The 16-year-old has reportedly signed for Manchester United.

The centre-back currently plays for the Under-19 side of Ligue 2 side Valenciennes, but a report in VAFC Power has claimed that he has agreed a move to Manchester United.

Upamecano is currently a French youth international, having appeared for both Under-16 and Under-17 teams, although he has yet to make a single professional appearance at club level. Not much is know of the youngster, but United’s scouts must have seen something in the player to convince them to spend €450,000 on the 16-year-old.

The fee could potentially double in the future should Upamecano be a success with the Red Devils, although there is no indication in the report as to what bonus criteria must be met for the extra €450,000 to be paid.

What does this mean for Manchester United?

Right now, Upamecano’s signing means little for United, with the youngster unlikely to make an appearance in the first-team for a number of years. However, he is guaranteeing himself a top level footballing development, and, should he follow the path of a number of United’s academy graduates, he will likely turn out for the Red Devils before too long. Should he fulfil the potential that has seen United pay a seemingly large fee for him, the signing of this unknown 16-year-old could turn out to be an incredible piece of business.
