Report: Everton tracking Gregoire Defrel, face competition from Fiorentina

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Cesena winger Gregoire Defrel.

Defrel, a 23-year-old French forward, currently turns out for Cesena in Serie A, with whom he has netted five goals in 17 games this term.

A report in TMW yesterday claimed that the Toffees had sent scouts to watch Defrel in action, and, having been suitably impressed, opened talks with the Italian club over the transfer of his services. QPR and West Brom also had scouts in attendance, but as of yet there has been no indication that either of that pair are planning to start negotiations with Cesena.

However, Everton do face competition for his signature, with TMW claiming today that Fiorentina have earmarked Defrel as a replacement for Juan Cuadrado, who looks set to sign for Chelsea.

The Blues were planning on sending Mohamed Salah back to the Viola as a makeweight in the transfer of the Colombian winger, but, as reported in the same story, the deal is stalling and Fiorentina are targeting Defrel as a second choice in case the Salah deal cannot be confirmed before the close of the transfer window this evening.

The article suggests that Cesena are unwilling to sell Defrel now, with a summer transfer prefered, but they are aware that an offer will likely be accepted if a sizeable offer is submitted for the 23-year-old.
