But only in Raid Mode and without apparently unbalancing the experience
Before leaping to arms to express your microtransactional disdain in a game you’re already being asked to pay up front for, the official line from the publisher doesn’t paint them that badly.
In Revelations 2’s Raid Mode “life crystals” will feature that allow players to revive their characters when killed. In the Raid Mode there will be two different kinds of these crystal available: lue life crystals, which you earn in-game and red life crystal which you can buy with real money. Other than the colour both crystal variants are exactly the same.
“Regarding your question, players can use “life crystals” when playing through Raid mode in Revelations 2,” said a Capcom spokesperson to Kotaku. “The crystals essentially act as continues (re spawns) in Raid mode when players die. Blue life crystals can be earned through playing daily missions and red life crystals can be bought. The two crystals act the same, but there’s an option to buy if players run out of blue (earned) crystals or don’t want to spend the time earning them. If players have both blue and red crystals, the game will prioritize the blue crystals over the red ones.”
It was also made clear the microtransactions will only appear in the Raid Mode and so won’t hang heavy around the neck of the game’s main story.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 arrives (complete with its Raid Mode money spinner) from the 25th February, gamers on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC will be able to play it.
