Ghostbusters reboot gets cast and release date

Paul Feig has finally revealed the cast and release date for Ghostbusters.

When Paul Feig took over the reigns to the Ghostbusters reboot many fans of the original movies were sceptical. The unease was only increased when it was announced the titular Ghostbusters would now all be female. It was perhaps no surprise that Feig had decided on an all female cast when you remember that he directed all female comedy smash Bridesmaids, and whilst the movie garners a Marmite response from movie fans it does at least show that he knows what he's doing.

Now, three months later, Feig has announced the four women who will play the Ghostbusters team. he is revisiting some familiar talent by hiring Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Anchorman 2) and Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Mike & Molly, This is 40). Joining the two Bridesmaids stars will be Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon (SNL, Toy Story of Terror, Vag Magazine) and Leslie Jones (SNL, National Security, Wrongfully Accused).

Paul Feig tweeted the details of the cast last night along with the first mention of a release date, which will be 22nd July 2016.

For those who may be concerned that one of their favourite movies from their childhood could forever be tainted by a mediocre reboot please remember that original Ghostbuster Dan Akroyd and Original Ghostbusters Producer Ivan Reitman are Executive Producers for the movie. It also turns out that Bill Murray has been very influential in the process, suggesting Wiig and McCarthy to Feig for the roles. In a recent interview Feig made it clear that this would be a reboot and not a remake saying "I love the first one so much, I don't want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let's just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn't gone through it so it's like, oh my God"

It has not yet been revealed which characters the four women will take on but we will be sure to let you know as soon as we find out.
