Yorkshire media round-up: Leeds may complete second January transfer soon

We bring you the latest news from Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.

Cani expected to sign for Leeds

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are very close to completing a deal for Catania forward Edgar Cani.

The Whites have been tracking Cani for most of the month so far and it seems that their persistence is close to paying off.

The Albanian striker was left out of Catania's squad this weekend, with a move to Elland Road reportedly on the horizon.

Madine could have a chance

Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine could have a chance to force his way back into contention at Hillsborough, according to Stuart Gray.

Madine has barely played for the Owls this campaign - and he is currently out on loan at Coventry City - but Gray has offered him an opportunity to impress when he returns.

"We haven’t closed the door on Gary," he said to the Sheffield Star. "Things can quickly change in football with injuries and suspensions.

“Gary will comeback into my thoughts on January 30. That competition is going to be healthy again up front.”

Baxter on De Girolamo

Jose Baxter has told Sheffield United prospect Diego De Girolamo that he cannot expect to be selected every week, even after his goal for the club in the FA Cup this weekend.

De Girolamo netted the Blades' equaliser against Preston North End in a 1-1 draw, but Baxter has given the 20-year-old some words of advice after the match.

“He can’t just go into the next game expecting to play. As a youngster you’re in and out of the team," he told the Yorkshire Post.

“You’re used when the manager wants to use you and it’s not every game you’re going to play."
