Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Mathieu Debuchy shoulder injury

Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy suffered a dislocated shoulder injury against Stoke City.

Arsene Wenger’s heart would have sunk yesterday when he saw key defender Mathieu Debuchy go down holding his shoulder.

The French right-back dislocated the joint, which could now see him out of action for a prolonged spell for the second time this season.

Debuchy missed a large chunk of the first half of the season with an ankle problem, which left Arsene Wenger with a problem in terms of how to patch up his back four.

He now faces a similar problem with just under three weeks left of the transfer window, if the boss feels he needs to bring in other players to cover in his back four.

The French defender, who joined from Newcastle for £12 million last summer, could be replaced by teammate Calum Chambers until his return, with the £16 million signing from Southampton having already filled in on the right this season.

Wenger’s other main option is to use a player out of position but it’s unclear whether he’ll use one of his opposite sided full-backs (Kieran Gibbs or Nacho Monreal) or ask a player to come back from a midfield position to help fill in, admitting it’s an area he’s short in.

Wenger has been reluctant to give an initial timeframe on how long Debuchy may be out for, but has confirmed he will be sent to see a specialist to have the injury assessed.

Arsenal have been troubled throughout the season by injury problems and it’s just become a very important transfer window for the Gunners, because a new defensive signing may be preferable to someone playing out of position.

The risk with the latter is that they may be targeted by the opposition as a potential weakness in the back four.

Here’s what Arsenal fans on Twitter had to say about Debuchy’s latest injury setback.
