Brother of Tottenham's Lewis Holtby dreams of Manchester United move

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Joshua Holtby wants to follow in his brother's footsteps by earning a high-profile move to the Premier League in the future.

Joshua Holtby, the 18-year-old brother of Tottenham Hotspur’s Lewis Holtby, has declared his ambition to earn a dream move to Manchester United in the future.

The central midfielder is a well-regarded prospect in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Under-19 team at present, but has said in an interview with that a starring role in the Premier League remains his ultimate goal.

“I happen to have an English passport and the Premier League is of course also a dream destination for me,” he said.

“Manchester United are my favourite club and the dream, like every other young footballer probably.

“But you have to give 100 percent, and to land there you not only need a lot of skill, but also happiness.”

Holtby labels United legend David Beckham as his footballing idol, but the German youngster describes his game as being some similar to all-round midfielders such as Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and Bayern Munich ace Xabi Alonso.

“Early on my idol was always David Beckham, but today it is a ‘classic six’ like Radja Nainggolan of AS Roma,” he said. “He is also a player who is not big [5ft 9in] but one who gets all over the place.

“Or even a player like Xabi Alonso from Bayern – players you always like to watch yourself because their passing ability is simply great.”

One thing’s for sure; if Holtby does end up moving to England eventually, he will hope he enjoys better success than his brother, who is currently back in Germany with Hamburg on a season-long loan, after falling out of favour at White Hart Lane.
