Earlier this season, Manchester United were said to have agreed a deal to sign Dani Alves on a free transfer.
That particular report proved to be unsubstantiated, but the longer the Brazilian full-back fails to sign a new deal at Barcelona, the more likely a move becomes, with Old Trafford one potential destination.
Seamus Coleman is the latest right-back to be linked with United, as they look to solve what remains a troublesome spot in the team – with Rafael a fan favourite but a less than reliable option given the number of mistakes he continues to make and his habit of picking up injuries.
The latest from Spain comes from Mundo Deportivo, which goes with the rather catchy headline: Dani Alves: A few hours from being free”.
Said headline refers to the fact that with a contract that expires in the summer, the Barca star will be free to negotiate with potential suitors from January 1, so could United be one?
That is certainly an option, with Alves a wonderful potential option who would fit Louis van Gaal’s formations perfectly.
The report claims Barcelona are yet to decide whether to offer a renewal or allow his contract to run down before waving him goodbye on a free transfer. But if the latter occurs expect United, and a whole host of other clubs, to be doing all they can to attract his attention.
