Liverpool morning news, Reds linked with teenager and Vietto, Henderson hails Rodgers

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this New Years' Eve.

Liverpool are in the hunt for two promising young players according to reports.

The Daily Mirror reports the Reds are chasing an 21-year-old dubbed the next Sergio Aguero in Villarreal's Luciano Vietto, who has been in good form in La Liga this season having scored 12 goals in 23 games, with the Argentine rumoured to cost £12 million.

According to the report, Vietto is earmarked as a replacement for Mario Balotelli, whose £16 million move from AC Milan in the summer hasn't worked out, with the Italian only scoring twice since his arrival at Anfield, and has yet to strike in the league for the Reds.

The Daily Mail is reporting Liverpool are in competition with Arsenal and Manchester City for St Etienne's 16-year-old defensive midfielder Rayan Souici.

The youngster is said to model his game on Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, a Frenchman who has been coveted by several Premier League Clubs in the past couple of years.

Away from transfer rumours, Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson has hailed manager Brendan Rodgers as one of the best in the world.

Henderson has hailed the tactical acumen of the Northern Irishman as well as his helping him develop as a player.

He's quoted by several sources, saying: “On the training field he’s always looking to improve us in every single way possible for us to have the best chance of winning games.

“You can see that during games. If it’s not going right in the first 10 to 15 minutes he will change something.

“He’s outstanding at seeing what’s happening in games and changing it whenever he needs to.”
