Michael Owen predicts Arsenal to drop points v Southampton

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen looks ahead to Thursday’s Premier League clash between Southampton and Arsenal.

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Arsenal will fail to win on Thursday.

The Gunners take on Southampton away from home in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

Arsenal will head into the clash at St. Mary’s Stadium on the back of two successive wins, but Owen backs the Saints to prevent them from picking up all three points.

“This corresponding fixture between the sides has finished in a draw on the last three occasions and I can see that sequence being maintained on Thursday,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.

“Saints got a valuable point against title-leaders Chelsea on Sunday and I suggest another 1-1 draw against the Gunners.”

Owen’s prediction could come true, especially as Southampton will go into the match brimming with confidence.

The Saints held league leaders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s on Sunday following wins against Crystal Palace and Everton.

Given the quality of Arsenal, the North London outfit will probably be the favourites, but a surprise could be in store for them.
