Three wins… Predicting Derby County’s festive period results

As English football enters the busy festive period, we take a close look at Derby County’s Championship clashes against Birmingham City and Leeds United, and the FA Cup tie against Southport.

Birmingham City v Derby County (Boxing Day)

Derby County are currently going through a bad run, having won just one competitive match this month so far.

However, the Rams should be able to pick up all three points from the Championship clash against Birmingham City away from home on Boxing Day.

It will not be easy to win at St. Andrew’s, but Derby have a superior team and should be able to edge it.

Prediction: 1-2

Derby County v Leeds United (December 30)

Derby will be looking for revenge when they take on Leeds United at the iPro Stadium. The two sides met last month at Elland Road, and on that occasion the Whites ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Despite the fact that Leeds are struggling for points and consistency, it will be a tough match for the Rams, who could concede a goal.

However, playing at home and having a much better team will prove decisive. Expect Derby to win this match.

Prediction: 2-1

Derby County v Southport (January 3)

On paper, this should be an easy victory for Derby, but given that this is an FA Cup third-round tie, it could prove to be anything but.

Conference Premier side Southport will know that they have nothing to lose against Derby, but Steve McClaren’s team should pass this test without much difficulty.

Prediction: 4-0
