Szczesny full of praise for Austin

Arsenal's busy Christmas period begins on Boxing Day with a home game against Queens Park Rangers, and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been speaking of his admiration for QPR's hotshot striker Charlie Austin ahead of their clash.

"He's been brilliant," said Szczesny. "I played against him when I was at Brentford on loan and he was at Swindon. He was a good player back then but to see someone coming through the lower leagues, into the Premier League and then doing as well as he is at the moment is very good."

"He could be a role model to young English players coming through. I'm delighted to see him doing well but I'm just hoping that his goalscoring form won't be as good on Friday," the Polish international added.

Wenger plays down Mings speculation

Recent transfer speculation has suggested that Arsenal have their sights set on an £8m bid to sign Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings in January.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger tackled the situation in today's press conference, but said that there's no truth to the rumours.

"No," said Wenger when asked if he would be signing Mings next month. "The intensity of the link is not down to us," he added, suggesting that the rumours are simply paper talk.

Arsenal linked with Australian wonderkid

Whilst Gunners fans regularly want the club to sign some of the world's top players, but Wenger often prefers to sign younger players and mould them himself.

That could be the case yet again, with ESPN reporting that Arsenal are vying with Manchester City for the signing of 17-year-old Australian wonderkid Daniel De Silva.

The Perth Glory playmaker already has 15 caps for the Australia Under-20 side, and his potential has big clubs queuing up for his signature, with Arsenal now entering the race.
