Stoke City will be out to take another big scalp in their season on Monday night when they host the league leaders at the Britannia Stadium – but they may have their work cut out against Chelsea.

To be played on Monday 22nd December 2014 at 20:00. Venue: Britannia Stadium, Stoke

Odds: Stoke 11/2, Draw 31/10, Chelsea 4/6

Stoke have given the bigger sides trouble so far this season. They have managed to win away against Tottenham and Manchester City this season, have beaten Arsenal at home, whilst narrowly missing out in games against Liverpool and Manchester United.

On Monday night, they welcome a Chelsea side that has only lost the once this season, and could come under their first real bit of pressure in the title race. A win for Manchester City against Crystal Palace will mean the two sides will be level on points, with Chelsea having played a game less.

Last season Chelsea left the Britannia Stadium empty handed, but they seem to be righting a lot of last season’s wrongs which denied them the league title last season.

Stoke may be in the bottom half of the table but they seem to relish these encounters, but Jose Mourinho seems to be aware of the difficulties his side will face against the Potters.

“On any given day we can beat anybody in this league and we have proved that, so let’s see where it takes us against Chelsea.”
Mark Hughes

“If you know you will play against Peter Crouch and their defenders and if you don’t adapt you are in trouble. They are a good and a difficult side.”
José Mourinho
