Tottenham's transfer plans face re-adjustment after news regarding £20m striker Jay Rodriguez

Jay Rodriguez is off the table for Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury.

The forward has been ruled out until February, report The Mirror, and it draws a line under interest in him from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Rodriguez has despite his knee injury, been strongly linked in recent months with following head coach Mauricio Pochettino to Spurs.

He was previously tipped to return to action as soon as November, giving him a chance to get fit and convince Tottenham to part with their money.

His latest setback takes his off of the club's January radar once and for all, and will increase their focus on other targets.

Spurs are claimed to be keen on shipping out Emmanuel Adebayor if they are able to, on loan or otherwise, and a replacement striker would be a priority.

Jackson Martinez has been another name linked but he has an agreement to stay at Porto during the summer, and so Swansea City's Wilfried Bony is one of the three most regularly linked strikers who could be available - but it will be at a high price, with no other forward scoring more in the Premier League during 2014 than he has.
