The style of Newcastle United's exit from the Capital One Cup last night has brought the pressure that they have worked so hard to alleviate right back.
The Magpies crashed out after putting up little fight in a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and the Newcastle faithful appear to have lost patience with certain members of their first-team squad.
Alan Pardew's men had won over their fan-base after a brilliant run of form lately, but this disappointment was tough to take and the reaction to the defeat on social media site Twitter was one of anger.
Although some players seemed to avoid criticism, others had to take a sizeable amount of vitriol.
One of these players was Yoan Gouffran after he put in another insipid performance, and many supporters have questioned why Pardew consistently picks him.
The Frenchman missed a big chance during the first half of the contest, but it was the ineffectiveness of his overall display which aggravated Newcastle supporters the most.
Gouffran has made 16 appearances this season, but he has rarely looked a threat going forward and he still has not hit the back of the net.
Last night's display seemed to be the final straw for many and the general consensus was that he should be nowhere near the starting line-up for Newcastle's game against Sunderland this weekend.
Here is the best reaction on Twitter from Magpies supporters to Gouffran's display.
Them hackers that stopped cinemas from playing The Interview, reckon we can get them to stop Alan Pardew playing Yoan Gouffran?— (via @AngelGabriel) (@JonnyGabriel) December 17, 2014
We have not won a game this season when Williamson and Gouffran have started #NUFC— NUFC Gallowgate (@NUFCgallowgate) December 18, 2014
Gouffran has started in our last 4 away games, says a lot about our tactics when we play him. Dropped against Chelsea. #NUFC— St_Jamie (@WrekaCoach) December 18, 2014
Also after he stated Gouffran tonight I am 110% done with Pardew— Michael Howe (@michaelhowe9) December 18, 2014
The absolute worst thing about tonight was that our game plan seemed to be based on long balls to Gouffran. He won 2 all game. #NUFC— #63NotOutForever (@joshNUFC_) December 17, 2014
The most gouffran did all day was stepping over the barrier to give a fan his shirt— Patrick Allison (@patnoodle_) December 17, 2014
Gouffran, anita, williamson and Dummet. Jeeeze they are bad players.— Paul Charters (@Chartersss) December 17, 2014
@nufcfans our winning streak started when gouffran stopped starting and ended when he started again, it's no surprise we lose when he starts— James Wilton (@james_wilton) December 17, 2014
Gouffran should never play for us again. I'd rather play Anita left mid.— Cal (@TWW_Cal) December 17, 2014
I have a broken toe. I can still guarantee I'll put in a better shift than Gouffran did this evening.— COCKERNEY MAG (@rossmclaren) December 17, 2014
Mike Williamson and Yoan Gouffran please please please don't play on Sunday. PLEASE. Another horror show from the gruesome twosome! #NUFC— Josh Kerslake (@Josh_Kerslake) December 17, 2014
