Manchester United morning update: Early team news; target’s passport boost

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United take on Liverpool at Old Trafford this afternoon, with Louis van Gaal’s side trying to make it six wins on the bounce.

United have gone on a brilliant run despite not always being at their best, but matches against the Reds often see the form-book thrown out the window so anything could happen at Old Trafford.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Jonny Evans could start the match in place of the injured Chris Smalling while Phil Jones and Rafael are set to return.

However Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind all remain side-lined through injury and will not take part.

In other news, reported United target Kevin Mendez has tweeted a picture of his new Italian passport.

The Penarol striker is said to be attracting interest from van Gaal’s side but his apparent lack of EU citizenship had raised questions over the ease with which such a deal could be concluded.

However, the Uruguayan teenager took to Twitter earlier this month to reveal that he finally had Italian citizenship, making any future move to United considerably easier.
