Arsenal morning news: Debuchy to play centre-back; £40m Pogba linked

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates this morning.

Mathieu Debuchy is set to play at centre-back this weekend in the tie with Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The French international, who has only recently returned to action after a spell on the sidelines, is likely to be used because of multiple player absentees.

Calum Chambers is suspended after seeing red against Stoke, Nacho Monreal is out with a foot injury and Laurent Koscielny's tendinitis is expected to keep him out of action once again.

Isaac Hayden is out with an ankle injury and Wenger is not ready to give a Premier League start to Stefan O'Connor, so Debuchy is set to start in the middle against his former team.

Arsenal are being linked with a fresh interest in former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has become a star during his time at Juventus but he has always been linked with a potential move back to England.

Now it is believed that Arsenal could be willing to spend up to £40 million to swoop for the player, in a deal likely to occur in the summer rather than January.

Yesterday it was reported in Spain that Arsenal had informed Cruzeiro of their willingness to meet Lucas Silva's asking price of around £12 million. Now it is being reported that Real Madrid are having second thoughts on a move for the talented Brazilian.

Silva has consistently made it clear that Real remains his number one choice but Carlo Ancelotti stated yesterday, when asked on the topic of signing Silva:

"We are waiting to see how the recovery of Modric and James [Rodriguez] progresses."

Clearly skirting the issue, it is believed Real are not keen to pay the fee being quoted.
