Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has insisted that he and his teammates are determined to win against Besiktas in Istanbul tonight.
Spurs are in Turkey for their final Europa League Group C encounter. The Premier League outfit have already qualified for the round of 32 and a draw will be enough for them to win the group.
Dier, though, claims that Tottenham are going to Turkey to win the game.
“It’s dangerous to go out and play for a draw – you’ve always got to try to win,” Tottenham’s official website quotes the 20-year-old as saying.
“Besiktas are a really hard team to play away to and when they came to White Hart Lane they showed they are a very good side.
“It’s going to be a really tough game, like all the matches are in the Europa League. There are no poor teams, it’s always tough, but we’ve just got to try to do our best.”
Dier’s attitude ahead of the game against Besiktas is one that should be praised. Given Tottenham’s recent struggles, they cannot afford to take any game lightly and need to give their all in even the most meaningless of matches.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to make changes to the side for tonight’s encounter, but if all the players take to the pitch with a winning mentality, then it will certainly help the team in the coming days.
