United linked with Vidic loan deal - Three questions and reaction

Manchester United have been linked with a loan deal to re-sign former captain Nemanja Vidic.

Several sources are claiming that Manchester United are closing on a deal that would see them re-sign former captain Nemanja Vidic on loan over the second half of the season.

The Serbian has struggled to get stuck into his Inter Milan career and with United in need of an injection of defensive experience, it seems like a no-brainer if all parties concerned can reach some sort of agreement.

We’ve looked at three key questions and initial reaction from Manchester United fans.

What are the benefits?

Vidic knows the club and brings a lot of experience to the table. That’s significant considering the number of youngsters Louis van Gaal is currently using in his back four. Vidic can surely only be helpful in terms of their development.

Is it a step backwards for the club?

Not really but only if it’s a short term deal. It would be amazing if United signed him on a long term contract after a loan spell this summer. Arsene Wenger took Thierry Henry back to Arsenal on a short term loan and Vidic would give van Gaal exactly what he needs in a position that needs covering.

He’s not the same defender he was the last time he was at Old Trafford but he could still do a job.

How would he be received?

Positively. Vidic was an icon at United before he left. It doesn’t feel like he jumped ship and fans gave him a great reception in his last game. If anything, his return would make United fans that little bit louder at home and away.

Here’s some initial reaction from United fans.
