Transfer Clock: Tottenham eye Spanish international Albiol, Arsenal in talks with Destro

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Newcastle and QPR feature.

23 Days to go until the transfer window opens: Here is the developing news you need to know...

1) Tottenham eye Raul Albiol

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing defender Raul Albiol, report The Mirror. The paper claim he is being lined up to replace Jan Vertonghen, with Mauricio Pochettino unconvinced about the Belgian and wants an experienced defender to replace him. Albiol left Real Madrid two summers ago to sign with Rafa Benitez's Napoli, and has more than 50 caps for Spain. At 29, he has made 16 appearances for Napoli this season, and was man-of-the-match in a recent away win over Fiorentina. The paper add that Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez of Southampton remain targets.

2) Arsenal linked to Destro

Arsenal are being strongly linked to striker Mattia Destro. The Sun report the Italian striker's agent has flown to London to negotiate with the Gunners, and even expect a deal to move forward. The paper write that the Roma star is 'set for Gunners switch', with a figure of £20 million being quoted. Arsenal are likely however to prioritise defensive targets this January. The 23-year-old international has scored four goals in seven Serie A starts this season, with a further five appearances off the bench.

3) Kramer blow

Arsenal and Spurs have both been linked to Christoph Kramer, but their pursuit may have been dealt a blow. The midfielder is on loan from Bayer Leverkusen at Borussia Moenchengladbach, but the Germans have been given an extra reason not to sell. 32-year-old Leverkusen midfielder Simon Rolfes, the club captain, announced this week he would retire at the end of the season, and there will subsequently be added chances for Kramer to prove himself at the club next year.

4) Warnock's Bolasie admission

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has revealed he once tried to sign Yannick Bolasie for QPR. The winger starred for Palace against Spurs at the weekend, and has been outperforming Wilfried Zaha this season. Warnock told The Mail that former QPR owner Flavio Briatore ruled against the deal as he was selling the club at the time.

5) Newcastle consider Schwarzer

Newcastle United are considering a surprise move for Mark Schwarzer, report The Sun. Despite beating Chelsea this weekend with two inexperienced goalkeepers featuring, the club are said to be keen on bringing in the stopper on an emergency loan. Krul is out until mid-January with an ankle problem, but to sign Schwarzer, Newcastle would have to get clearance from the Premier League. The Australian is 42-years-old and is third choice behind Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech.
